Many people depend on childcare providers to take care of their children; some parents work full-time and depend on childcare providers to take care of their children while they are at work every day, while other parents and guardians only require childcare services for a few hours a week.

Types of childcare

There are many different childcare options available to parents and guardians; you can choose the type of childcare which best suits your individual requirements and the needs of your child. Some parents prefer to employ a nanny or a childminder to look after their child, as this ensures that they get one to one care, while others prefer to send their children to a nursery or playgroup, where they will meet lots of other children. Childminders work from their own home and care for a single child or a small number of children, while nurseries and playgroups cater for much larger groups of children.

Many parents use before and after school clubs when their children start school; this means they can work full-time hours without having to worry about who is going to collect their child from school or having to employ somebody to look after their child for an hour or so after school.

Affording childcare

Childcare is not cheap and many people struggle to afford childcare; in order to help people out, the government offers financial assistance to working parents and there is also a scheme that provides 15 hours of free childcare for 3 and 4 year olds for 38 weeks per year. Childcare as a career

Childcare is a popular career choice, as it has many benefits. Most people who work in childcare will tell you that the best bit of the job is spending time with children, watching them grow up and forming a special bond with them. Childcare is a very rewarding career in many ways, although it can be demanding and challenging at times; when you look after children, it is non-stop and you will be on the go for long periods of time. Childcare is not well paid in comparison to many other jobs but it is often fun, hugely satisfying, interesting, challenging and varied.
